Oracle Yoga Practice

Imperfectly Authentic Luminous Warrior

I didn’t want to post this yoga practice.

After reviewing this practice that encourages us to let go of what hides our authentic self, I, ironically, had what my counselor calls a Super Ego Attack. You would think that a super ego attack is about feelings of “how great I am,” which it can be, but in this instance it was the opposite, a firing of criticism… “I’m too old (64!) to be doing yoga on camera… I don’t have the perfect body of a yoga teacher… These are not the right yoga clothes for the camera… Here I am in the middle of talking about letting our Authentic Self shine through and I am so inauthentically screwing up!! How could this possibly be happening after 21 years of teaching yoga???... blah, blah, ETC…” Strangely enough, when I tried to edit the video, it froze. For an entire day!!! I was sure I was going to trash it anyway…

But during that freezing time, I realized that I absolutely should post this video! As I am teaching, I am going through what I am teaching!! While doing twists, I ask that we twist out that very last aspect of ourselves that is keeping us from living in authenticity… I worked for me!!!!

I could get into how this attack mirrors a syndrome that, no doubt, exists because of our cultural tendency to want to use the internet to hide behind, to disguise who we truly are, but that is another essay.

This yoga practice emphasizes letting go of perfection and finding inner inspiration. The "Luminous Warrior" card drawn from the Mystical Shaman Oracle deck emphasizes this. It asks us to “…not be seduced by what seems wrong with us or the world… to feed your light with more light until you feel truly empowered!”

Today, as I post this video, the Moon is New in Aries, the beginning of the astrological year. The Solar Eclipse passed this morning, helping us to reset ourselves. If you truly want to squeeze out that part of you that keeps you separate from your authenticity, then do this 20 minute practice… which, by the way, I say on the video that it is a 10 minute practice. Oh well… I am truly, authentically imperfect. I offer this practice to you as a way to move through the BS of your super ego.

Namaste, Melanie

Here is an invocation to accompany this practice. Feel free to use this one or make your own declaration of intentions.:

Dear New Moon in Aries and Solar Eclipse,

As the Sun is partially shadowed by the moon, let me witness my own shadow without judgment. Let me focus on the light shining through the shadows. Help me find the courage to stand in my power, speak my truth and live authentically.

What is it my criticism and anger so faithfully protect? I want to know. Help me see how I have grown and what is real for me now. Engulf me in Presence. Illuminate the wisdom and light that hides behind the shadow of smallness.

Clear the slate and let me see Myself.

Thank you. For the Highest Good. So be it.
